Jurisdiction selection is a compliance decision, not a branding decision

The offshore industry has historically marketed jurisdictions by their secrecy features. That era is over. Today, the relevant questions are: Which jurisdictions have tax treaty relationships that benefit Kenyan investors? Which have economic substance rules your structure can genuinely meet? Which are viewed as reputable by the private banks where you intend to hold your accounts? Swiftdterra works across a curated list of jurisdictions — Mauritius, BVI, Cayman Islands, DIFC/UAE, Seychelles, and Gibraltar — selected precisely because they remain bank-friendly and treaty-effective for clients with East African business and personal connections. We do not work in jurisdictions that have been grey-listed by the FATF or placed on the EU non-cooperative list, because structures formed there create banking problems and reputational risk that cannot be managed away after the fact.

Jurisdictions we work across

Each entry reflects a jurisdiction we have active working relationships and current regulatory knowledge in.

Mauritius

East Africa's most widely used offshore centre, with a double-tax treaty network that includes Kenya, India, and South Africa. The Global Business Company licence (GBC) is the standard vehicle for holding regional investments and managing fund structures.

British Virgin Islands

The BVI Business Company remains the most flexible and cost-effective holding vehicle for international asset segregation. Its economic substance requirements are straightforward for passive holding companies, and it is accepted by virtually every major private bank.

Cayman Islands

The preferred jurisdiction for fund structures — hedge funds, private equity vehicles, and family office investment vehicles. Cayman's regulatory framework is sophisticated, and its LP and trust structures are well understood by institutional counterparties.

DIFC / UAE

The Dubai International Financial Centre offers common-law foundations and company structures with access to UAE banking and a growing treaty network. Particularly suited to clients with business interests or planned residency in the Gulf.

Seychelles

A cost-effective option for asset protection structures and holding vehicles where Mauritius or BVI complexity is not justified by asset size. The Seychelles Special Licence Company provides a regulated alternative to the standard IBC.

Why we don't work in every jurisdiction available

There are more than 50 jurisdictions that describe themselves as offshore financial centres. Swiftdterra works in fewer than ten. The reason is practical: maintaining current regulatory knowledge, active banking relationships, and qualified local agent networks takes real investment. A firm that claims to operate across all jurisdictions is almost certainly shallow in most of them. Our focus on a curated set means that when you ask us a question about Mauritius economic substance reporting or BVI beneficial ownership registration, we have a direct answer — not a research promise. It also means we can tell you honestly when a jurisdiction you have read about is not one we can support you in, and why.
